From
“Dominator Consciousness” to the
“Partnership Way”
Masters Degree in Education with a
Concentration in Partnership Education
Teacher Education Program, Goddard College, Plainfield, Vermont
Based on the cultural transformation theory of Riane Eisler,
Partnership Education proposes that society needs to move from a
predominant “dominator consciousness,” which has brought us
centuries of war, poverty, authoritarianism, and injustice, to a
“partnership consciousness,” which embodies the principles of
egalitarianism, care, spirituality and social justice.
This professional development opportunity will be of special
interest to educators or community/cultural workers who are
interested in
Gender and education
Multicultural education
Spirituality
Environmental sustainability
Educating for democracy and social
responsibility
and who seek to put these ideals into practice in an educational
environment. We have worked closely with Riane Eisler and with
Christine Sleeter of California State University at Monterey
Bay, whose work in multicultural and Partnership education at
CSUMB has informed the development of Goddard’s program.
Goddard College offers intensive residency programs to meet the
needs of people with professional, family, and other obligations
that make participation in a traditional classroom program
difficult. Students can earn a Master’s Degree in Partnership
Education by enrolling in Goddard’s nationally renowned Teacher
Education program.
The program:
Students attend a seven-day residency prior to each semester (usually in January and July). The rest of the time, you work in your own home or community, doing independent study in collaboration with a faculty advisor.
This concentration is semi-structured, providing a combination of required and suggested readings.
As part of the degree requirements, you will apply your knowledge gained in participatory research to an action project in your school or community.
This project will be presented to the Goddard community upon
graduation.
Goddard Faculty members specializing in Partnership Education:
Through intensive, independent study with these faculty members,
you will gain the skills and knowledge to really make a
difference in the world through the application of partnership
principles in your community. You will join a nationwide network
of educators and community activists working to put these ideas
into practice.
Now more than ever, the world needs a new vision – a vision of
peace, cooperation, and justice. Survival itself depends on a
new vision, but even more important, on the hard work of people
with the practical wisdom and skills to implement this vision.
If you have been looking for just the right Master’s program to
put your personal vision of social transformation into practice,
please consider Goddard’s Master’s Degree in Partnership
Education.
