Introduction to The Real Wealth of Nations

A short introduction to the book The Real Wealth of Nations: Creating a Caring Economics by the volunteer book group who created the one-page chapter summaries.

With support and permission from the author, Riane Eisler, our volunteer book group has taken the 10 chapters of this incredible book and brought them down to a manageable one page per chapter review.

This shortened guide enables a group to immediately begin talking about these world-changing ideas in online and local discussion groups.

We found this book to be so groundbreaking and important that we wanted to share it with as many people as possible.  By presenting you an abridged version of the ideas in The Real Wealth of Nations, you’ll have an opportunity to discuss these ideas with others in an easy format.  We believe when you begin to explore and comprehend the ideas and solutions expressed in this snapshot edition, you'll be motivated to delve deeper and read the entire book.  There you will get all the facts and figures that support the premise that a caring economic system that promotes human welfare and optimal human development can be the solution for a troubled world.

Every day the news brings us information about gas prices increasing, food prices rising, food shortages looming, and global warming spreading.  People are beginning to wake up! They can see that things are cracking at the seams of the old systems but they don't know what to do.

The Real Wealth of Nations shows how we can move the economy from an unbalanced, dominate or be dominated model to a balanced, caring, life supporting, partnership model. This is a viable option that already has proven successful in its limited application (examples of which are provided in the book).  Using this abridged version or reading the whole book will empower you to begin seeing the steps you can take to create this transition in your community too.

We are not born with our economic habits—it is something we inherited and have continued to teach to ourselves without question, generation after generation.  But with the huge disparities between rich and poor—where even in the US, 17% of our children go hungry—it’s becoming painfully obvious that the old lessons of Adam Smith’s “Wealth of Nations and the invisible hand of the markets” is woefully incomplete in creating a world that works for humankind or for the natural world.  This old system is still largely based in a dominator value system that must be recognized and changed. As we head into a post-consumer world, The Real Wealth of Nations promotes a new framework on which to build the economy based on an alternative—a caring value system.

Great things lie in our future and in The Real Wealth of Nations by Riane Eisler, you will find the foundation to make them happen. Please join us now in this discussion!
