"Spirituality has become the word of the hour. But what is spirituality? What does being spiritual mean? For me, as for many others, spirituality means feeling at one with that which we call the divine. But when I think of the divine I... think of our own most evolved qualities: our profound human capacity for empathy, for love, our striving for justice, our hunger for beauty, our yearning to create. I think being spiritual means being ethical and, in the true sense of the word, moral."

Riane Eisler

In a world where spirituality often means destructive cults or entrenched religions based on strict and unfeeling dogma. Riane Eisler offers a vision of spirituality that cherishes our humanity instead of denying it. A sane approach to achieving the spiritual fulfillment we all strive for. A way of connecting to ourselves and the world instead of cutting ourselves off. It is an approach that is well overdue and offers hope for the future of our species.

Her stunning and far-reaching book on precisely this topic is titled Sacred Pleasure.

While spirituality in Eisler's view is something intensely personal, it also demands from us a participation in our larger human community. We cannot be spiritual people and turn a blind eye to the suffering of others. She invites you to answer this sacred call to action:

SAIV  The Spiritual Alliance to Stop Intimate Violence

The goal of SAIV is to stop the secrecy and silence shrouding violence against women and children. We ask spiritual leaders to speak for those who cannot speak for themselves, thereby laying the foundations for a more equitable and peaceful world. For more information and to find out what you can do to help visit our SAIV page.

Spirituality is an underpinning of much of Riane Eisler's work, but here are a few articles that speak about spirituality more specifically.
